Aim:
To
provide riding for disabled people in a friendly and safe environment.
Riding is of enormous benefit to
disabled people, not just because it is a fun sport and working
with animals is a new experience for many, but also because sitting
on a horse at a walk is one of the best forms of therapy for those
with a wide range of physical problems as it improves balance and
posture. Riding also provides a new challenge for those with learning
difficulties; these riders can make great progress with the horses
and ponies providing a real incentive, and increasing confidence
and self-esteem. The benefits to riders carry on into the rest of
their lives.
All groups are linked to the national
RDA
organization. This provides our insurance, and also training/assessment
for instructors, advice on health and safety, a series of proficiency
tests for riders, a framework for competitions, and other information.
